Contemporary Hillsborough Garden
The bridge to the front door was the inspiration for creating a dry creek running through a Birch grove and grassy meadow. The plant palette was kept simple, contrasting the dark green background shrubs with the red-bronze foliage of the foreground planting. The changing seasons are marked by the yellow leaves of the Birches in the fall, and the tree silhouettes against the clean horizontal lines of the house in the winter. The vertical lines of the Trinity Stone boulders provide a grounding structure to the free-flowing lines of the creek bed. The challenge in the back yard was to integrate the existing curvilinear swimming pool with the contemporary lines of the house.
